How long does IVF treatment take?

In vitro fertilization (IVF) typically takes about 4 to 6 weeks for the full cycle, which can be broken down into several stages:

  1. Ovarian Stimulation (10–14 days): You’ll take hormone injections to stimulate your ovaries to produce multiple eggs. Frequent monitoring via blood tests and ultrasounds is needed during this period.
  2. Egg Retrieval (1 day): When the eggs are ready, they are retrieved in a short procedure under sedation.
  3. Fertilization and Embryo Culture (3–5 days): The retrieved eggs are fertilized in the lab, and the embryos are cultured for a few days to reach a suitable stage for transfer.
  4. Embryo Transfer (1 day): One or more healthy embryos are transferred into your uterus, typically 3-5 days after fertilization.
  5. Pregnancy Test (10–14 days after transfer): A blood test is conducted to check for pregnancy. If successful, further monitoring will follow.

The process may vary depending on individual factors like response to hormones or specific treatment protocols. Some patients may require additional cycles for a successful pregnancy.
